Hearts Made Great
Gerry Egan
Gerry Egan has been very active both on and
off stage across the country. To highlight a few of Mr. Egan’s backstage
credits he has been Lighting Designer for Cosi Fan
Tutte, Albert Herring (UWOpera), Cabaret, Gypsy (Theatre Western and the Don Wright Faculty of
Music) and looks forward to lighting The Merry Widow
for UWOpera in February. Last December he spent 10 weeks in Alberta as
Production Stage Manager for Opera NUOVA’s school touring season. He has
stage managed shows and events for Opera NUOVA, UWOpera, London Musical
Theatre, Port Stanley Festival Theatre, Original Kids Theatre, the London
Health Sciences Centre, the Catholic Diocese of London and Middlesex, and
various dance recitals in the London community. On a performance level, after
spending one year in Sheridan College’s Music Theatre Performance program
Mr. Egan, Tenor, returned to London to study Voice Performance at the
University of Western Ontario. He has spent two summers in Edmonton, Alberta
at Opera NUOVA, an intensive summer training program for young up-and-coming
Canadian singers, and this year worked in New Brunswick with Wendy Neilson at
the St. Andrew’s by the Sea Summer Opera Workshop. Recent on stage
credits included Kaspar in Amahl and the Night
Visitors (Opera NUOVA), the title roles in Albert
Herring and Candide (UWOpera), and Laurie in
the Canadian premier of Mark Adamo’s opera Little
Women (Opera NUOVA). On a community level, Gerry has been seen in the
wild overnight success Personals produced by Diva
Productions, Purple Patches production of Damn
Yankees and Collective Arts production of the premiere of Simon
Johnston’s wartime musical A Nightingale
Sang.
This past year he made his directorial debut with Gypsy, a co-production with Theatre Western and the Don Wright Faculty of Music, and he will be directing a very touching one act opera Once Upon A Christmas for the Metropolitan United Church to play in December.
